Surprising Jobs You Can Outsource

When you are running your own company, you may be aware of several roles you can outsource. These positions are not jobs that you need filled on a regular basis; instead, they are one-time projects or a form of ongoing work that requires some deviation from standard working hours. Most people think of things like customer service and accounting when they think of outsourcing. However, these are not the only positions you can find outsourced help for with ease. In fact, you may be surprised to learn that there are numerous roles within business organizations that can be outsourced to help save your company money.

Reception/Administrative Assistance

The Virtual Assistant field has boomed in the last few years, with hundreds of companies and organizations offering their services. A virtual assistant can do everything that an in-office one can, except for great clients and file. Depending on the type of company you run, that may suit your needs perfectly. People hire virtual assistants for ongoing help or for one-time projects. For example, an organization may hire a virtual assistant to review their email once a day, forwarding important ones to relevant departments on an ongoing basis. Alternatively, a company could hire a virtual assistant to help prepare new welcoming packages for new clients or to provide extra help during an exceptionally busy period.

Looking for a virtual assistant is relatively easy. You can search using Google, or turn to websites like Fiver and Upwork. Make sure you prioritize finding a virtual assistant with experience in your field over one who charges a low rate. You should also take the time to read reviews and get references from past clients.

Research

Regardless of industry, most people in management and senior management positions need to conduct some research on a given topic. This may include things like market research before a product launch, research on the job market in an area the company is considering expanding into, or research on the competition and their marketing strategies. While major corporations have research departments, smaller businesses do not tend to have a need for a full-time researcher. Outsourcing this role for one-time projects is a great way to have high-quality research done without breaking your budget.

You can use the same sources to find a researcher as you can to find a virtual assistant. However, you may also want to ask other industry leaders for recommendations instead. Chances are, they have had to conduct some form of research in the past and may be able to recommend someone who is familiar with the industry.

Marketing

Large companies either have in-house marketing departments or they have the funds available to hire multinational marketing firms. Small companies do not typically have the same resources available. However, this does not mean that you have to rely on your own knowledge for marketing. This is one role that you can outsource with increasing ease. There are numerous digital marketing agencies popping up eager to help new clients.

It is a good idea to look for a marketing agency with a young staff; preferably ones who are recently out of school. These individuals understand how to connect with customers more than others who come from an older generation and have not yet adapted to social media and click-based marketing.

Human Resources

Small businesses do not typically have the money for a separate human resources department. In these cases, members of management are often the ones responsible for making hiring and firing decisions. While this can work out, it is much less successful than if someone trained in human resources were completing this task on your behalf. Thankfully, human resources is yet another job you can easily outsource.

Again, spend some time looking for recent graduates. They are more familiar with the law and acceptable standards of workplace behavior than older generations and are also typically eager to work for less. Be sure to get recommendations before offering this company or individual a job, especially form people who have been helped before. You want to be sure that this individual makes good hiring choices.

As a small business owner, you do not have to do everything yourself. Nor do you need to spend the money required to hire full or part-time permanent staff. Instead, consider outsourcing. You can find people to help with a variety of roles within your company. This gives them valuable working experience and helps you fill a gap in your employment needs without going into debt.
